Vashon Artists Linked In Social Engagement

April 2011

Amalgamation
artists:
John Martin &
Shelly Stefanko

Opening reception:
Friday, April 1st from 6-9PM

Shelly Stefanko from Leavenworth, Washington and VALISE member John Martin celebrate their friendship of 17 years with an exhibition together at VALISE in April.  This show is a cocktail of visual expression, ideas, and emotions through mixed media including oil, wood, metal, charcoal, textiles, fiberglass and more.  This exciting fusion of concepts blends the diverse into a single identity.

John grew up on Vashon, where the waters of the Sound and dark woods sparked his creativity from an early age.  In this first exhibition, John fuses his knowledge of different materials together with this creativity.  He loves working with wood, and often combines finish woodworking with abstract sculpture.  John is a mixed media artist who creates complex, mysterious, and provocative artwork.

Shelly is an oil painter that hails from the other side of the Cascade Mountains, but has experienced the beauty of living on Vashon and known the grandeur of the Pacific Northwest for the better part of 20 years. Shelly received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon.  Her often large sized paintings fill the room with color and grandeur.  She is inspired by the natural environment that surrounds her, and its connection to the human soul.

The show runs First Friday and Saturdays through the end of April.
VALISE gallery hours are Saturdays 11 to 5 p.m. and by appointment.  To schedule an appointment please call: VALISE member John Martin 206.619.2364 or Carol Schwennesen 206.595.0388.
