During the month of August, VALISE member Heather Joy and guest Leanne Olds from Madison WI, will present an exhibition entitled “Special Relativity”. Nature’s universality has provided inspiration for both artists, who have known each other since 1997 when Heather married Leanne’s son Matthew.
For the August show, Leanne will present new work, created during her current transition from a long career of graphic design, and technical and scientific illustration at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. “For me, the best parts of watercolor are the beginning and the end of a painting. The beginning offers endless possibilities with grand and unconstrained gestures. The end ties the whole together, uniting background, foreground, color, design and detail that gather during the middle parts.” Leanne’s watercolors offer a delightful glimpse of the beauty found in the Midwest.
Motivated by the environmental concerns of Vashon and Maury Islands and her desire to make the earth a better place for her children, Heather will create a mixed-media installation in the gallery space. She is excited to continue the conversation begun in the March exhibition “
Abandoned Concentrations” at the Blue Heron Gallery.
