Vashon Jam/Slam/Glam All-Island Art Show

“I’m not going to sell it, because it’s too fantastic and besides, my brother wants it.”

“Things happen that you don’t expect, and they are often just so good you just leave ‘em there.”

“You start one piece, and then you get more ideas!”

“I was just fooling around about a month ago, and look what I did.”

“My wife made me bring this in.”

“THAT is MY piece!”

“I just couldn’t finish it for the longest time… and then I thought, now I know what to do.”

“You told us yesterday to make something, and here it is.”

“No one has called me an artist before.”

This is a small sample of what we heard when 125 Vashon Island artists, ranging in age from 3 to ? arrived at VALISE with enthusiastic, heartfelt, intriguing and thoughtful works of art.

We enjoyed meeting and talking with all of you, from old friends to new residents of our island community. We were touched to see family members from two and three generations encourage each other to show their work.

We hope you enjoy the conversations, questions and surprises that arise when one person’s work of art finds itself placed next to several “new neighbors.”

We certainly were inspired by the process of finding a good home on the walls of this small gallery for your work, and we look forward to talking with you about all of it.
