During the month of June, VALISE gallery welcomes Liz Brugato from Portland, Oregon, who will exhibit with VALISE member Nan Joy in a show entitled Home. Home is a yearning or a pulling toward something safe, contained, friendly, welcoming. It’s something we strive to create, consciously and unconsciously, as we assemble, and represent, our lives.
Nan Joy says: In this show I put together photography, pastel and assemblage to create an atmosphere that explores the concept of “Home.” Through this work I show my interest in understanding how fantasy is found in reality and how reality is found in fantasy. This realm of the unknown, through its looseness, creates gaps in space and time. This allows us to think, and feel, the possibility of the imaginable.
Liz Brugato says: Painting is my refuge. It is my anchor in life, my true friend. It is there on the good days and bad days. Art has been my passion since the age of remembering. It is my safe haven, the inner core of my being. It is the place I call home in my heart. My paintings represent the inner being of my soul. It is a place I go to sometimes fast and furious and other times it is a slow process of challenge and discovery. The painting takes me on a journey to unknown thoughts and ideas.
