Showing this May at VALISE: An All-Ages/All-Island (and perhaps a bit beyond) conversation, in words, images, objects, and then some… An invitation to participate in a wide-ranging all-island conversation about a complex topic.

We look forward to celebrating the surprising and inspiring work with the whole island on First Friday, May 6th, from 6-9 p.m. VALISE Gallery hours during the month of May are Fridays 5-7, Saturdays 11-5, Sundays 11-5
and by appointment
. To schedule an appointment please call VALISE members Elizabeth Conner 206.310.0251 or Carol Schwennesen 206.595.0388. Related events will also take place throughout the month of May. Stay tuned!

During the month of May, VALISE will show:

Artwork related to censorship, work that has been censored, work you might have been hiding for 25 years because you didn’t think it was good enough or “safe” enough to share…

We invite everyone to bring:
• 2 and 3-dimensional work, in any media,
• Writings
• Musings, spoken or written
• Video
• Performance
• Music / sound art
• And things we have not yet imagined…

The work may be something you create, something you select that relates to your thoughts about censorship, or work by someone else. Collaborative work is welcome! We will ask you to provide a credit for work by others and/or arrange for the author or artist to provide written information about their work.

Click here for our as-succinct-as-humanly-possible VALISE paperwork, which you will need to bring, with your work.

All artwork will be inventoried and installed by VALISE Collective artists. We will help you price your work for sale, or you may bring work that is not for sale (NFS). VALISE welcomes and encourages participation by all ages, and we may choose to display work in our gallery’s “back room” that parents might not want younger children to experience… yet. We realize this is probably a form of censorship, but we value our “kid-friendly” gallery and may decide to make the more accessible front room a clearly-defined option for younger artists and their parents.

Questions?  Of course! Your questions and comments will inform and help frame this show from now through the month of May. Call VALISE member Elizabeth Conner at 206.310.0251 or e-mail info@valisegallery.org
