re:source
artists: Carol Schwennesen & Tracy Linder

Opening reception:
Friday, October 1st from 6-9PM

During the month of October, VALISE gallery presents re:source, new work by  VALISE member Carol Schwennesen and Montana artist Tracy Linder. Looking at sources of legend, myth, persistence, and the cyclic rhythms of life, the artists will tap the resources upon which we build our lives, thoughts, awareness and concerns.

Carol Schwennesen says, “The new oil paintings in re:source slip from water, land, time, structure, resistance, persistence and paint. I like diving into a surface to its mysterious molecular and mythic foundation. That, given time and abandon, takes me beyond what I know to an abstract condition hovering amongst the molecules.” Schwennesen has lived in many places from Europe to the Pacific Islands, and has paintings in collections from England and Italy to the U.S. and Japan.

Tracy Linder explains, “The Wings series began by recognizing birds as reincarnates. Then, by understanding their contribution to sustained life. Throughout legends and myths, flight is freedom. Birds are a source: the beginning; their choreography is resplendent with rhythm and history. In re:source I will exhibit a portion of the 100 wings that belong to the series.” Linder, from the Montana plains, is a sculptural installation artist whose work is in public collections such as the Yellowstone Art Museum and Montana State University, and has shown at OK Harris in New York, the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, and many museums and galleries throughout the US.

The opening reception for re:source is First Friday, October 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. VALISE gallery hours are Saturdays 11 to 5 p.m. and by appointment.

For further information or to visit the gallery by appointment through October 30, please contact VALISE member Carol Schwennesen 206/595-0388.
